Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) , the Chennai based tractor major has outrun other industry majors with a sales growth of 38 % in December 2005 as compared to December 2004. The TAFE tractors group that includes Massey Ferguson, Eicher and the TAFE brands has sold 4966 tractors in December 2005 as against 3602 tractors in Dec 2004 and its market share for December 2005 is also up by 2.1 percent to 22.02 % from 19.92 % in Dec 2004.

The tractor industry in December has also shown a significant growth of about 23% with a total industry sale of 22566 tractors as against 18379 tractors in December 2004. According to Mr. TR Kesavan, Sr. Vice President (Marketing and Product Strategy), this growth has been made possible by the new products and variants launched so far in the year performing well, apart from overall improvement in performances in a number of markets. TAFE’s growth is significant, as it appears to have bucked the declining trend in certain markets such as UP, MP and Bihar apart from increasing its presence in the southern markets, which are quite buoyant, this year.

TAFE seems all set to achieve its target of 60000 tractors sale in the current fiscal having already posted a sale of 46424 tractors in the first three quarters and is pushing forward towards reaching a 25 % market share
