About JRehab

Since 1980, TAFE’s JRehab has empowered women with disabilities through skills, meaningful employment and the opportunity to build independent lives with confidence and dignity.

Located in Alampatti, near Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, JRehab is one of TAFE’s pioneering women empowerment initiatives. It provides women with orthopaedic disabilities with specialised skills, sustainable employment and an enabling professional environment.

What began with five women has grown into a skilled, all-women workforce of over 100, contributing directly to TAFE’s manufacturing ecosystem. JRehab is built on a simple yet powerful belief: when people are recognised for their abilities and provided with the right opportunities, they can transform their lives and the world around them.

TAFE’s former Chairman, Mr. A. Sivasailam, believed that people should be valued for their capabilities rather than defined by their physical limitations. This progressive conviction inspired the establishment of JRehab in 1980 in memory of his father, TAFE’s Founder Chairman, Mr. S. Anantharamakrishnan, fondly known as “J.”

His vision was not merely to provide assistance, but to create meaningful employment through which women with disabilities could develop professional skills, earn independently and lead lives of dignity and self-reliance.

More than four decades later, this founding belief continues to guide JRehab. Today, the women of JRehab produce tens of thousands of wiring harnesses every month for tractors serving farmers in more than 80 countries. Their journey represents more than the growth of a manufacturing facility. It is the story of a unique sisterhood built on courage, commitment, precision and shared progress.

Zero Defects. Every Single Day.

Through disciplined processes and exacting workmanship, the team ensures that every component meets TAFE’s quality requirements before it leaves the facility.

TAFE’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for persons with disabilities has received recognition at both the national and state levels.

In 2000, TAFE received the National Award for the Best Employer for People with Disabilities. In the same year, the Government of Tamil Nadu presented JRehab with the Best Employer Award for providing employment opportunities to persons with disabilities.

These recognitions reflect JRehab’s enduring contribution to inclusive employment, women’s empowerment and workplace inclusion.
